Originally founded in 1960, David and Charles is a leader in illustrated non-fiction publishing with a focus on craft and creative categories. From our base in Exeter, Devon, we publish around 50 new books each year which we distribute globally. Alongside our books, we run the distance learning website rsnonlinecourses.com, in partnership with the Royal School of Needlework. 

What was your biggest achievement on your internship?   

I surpassed the goal set for me by increasing our US audience by nearly 50% in two months. 

Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these? 

I had two surgeries for my cystic fibrosis which meant that I faced uncertainty during my internship. I kept in close contact with my manager and was able to continue working at a scale that was manageable. 

What were your reasons for undertaking this internship?     

  • To gain experience and knowledge within a specific occupation or field.  
  • To improve my job prospects by expanding my CV and what I can draw upon in interviews.  
  • To build new connections.
