Name of Student: Edwin

Job Title: Horticultural Guest Worker

Job Summary:

The role involved assisting with a variety of horticultural day-to-day tasks that arise with the various teams at the Eden Project. These tasks will include pruning, weeding, potting, planting, etc.

What was your biggest achievement on your internship?

I have helped the gardens at the Eden project by tending several areas and I have learned a lot of new interesting species that may not be elsewhere in the UK to see. A highlight was pollinating the jade vine.

Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these?

Working conditions could be challenging in the tropical biome due to heat but I overcame this with regular breaks and consuming lots of fluid and electrolytes. A challenge was working with many unfamiliar plants but I made sure to ask questions and clarify what was what.

As a result of my internship…

  •  I have improved my communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills.
  • My job prospects have improved by expanding my CV and what I can draw upon in interviews.
  • I have learned more about the skills I need and the options available to me in future.
  • My overall confidence has increased.
