Devon County Council has declared a climate emergency. We have committed to facilitating the reduction of Devon’s carbon emissions to net-zero by 2050 at the latest and improving the environment’s and our communities’ resilience to climate change. We are leading a partnership to make a Devon Carbon Plan and a Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Adaptation Plan in response to the Devon Climate Emergency.
What was your biggest achievement on your internship?
Working on a campaign to launch the Devon Carbon Plan including paid and organic socials, website updates with WordPress, print ads, radio ads, as well as communication information distributed to stakeholders.
Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these?
I dealt with anxiety during the transition between university life and working and worry about performing well enough in my role. I communicated this to my manager, and she was very supportive, providing extra help where needed. I also set up weekly short check-ins which helped me to feel more on top of my work. Overall, my anxiety decreased because of this.
What could be improved about your overall experience completing this internship?
Perhaps attending work in person (rather than primarily working from home) could be heavily advised at the start so new starters can get familiar with the office and colleagues faster.
