With stories from medieval Bishops and Nelson’s Admirals, pubs, clubs and Beating the Bounds, Bishopsteignton’s rich heritage will always inspire ardour in its villagers. To share these stories, they manage and maintain a heritage facility in Bishopsteignton as well as conduct community outreach, collections management, research and more! 

What was your biggest achievement on your internship? 

I have increased in confidence. I now feel comfortable bringing ideas to the table and giving feedback on what the team there were already doing. I also used editing software and gained skills with that that I otherwise wouldn’t have learned. 

Were there any challenges during your internship and if so, how did you overcome these? 

it was quite a big time commitment each week. I generally spent my weekends working for this internship so it meant I had to be diligent and organised with uni assignments within the week. 

 What were your reasons for undertaking this internship?   

  • To improve my job prospects by expanding my CV and what I can draw upon in interviews. 
  • To gain experience and knowledge within a specific occupation or field. 
  • To earn money.

  • I have improved my communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

I felt very supported and grateful to have been able to get this opportunity via Exeter’s internship team. 

Would you recommend this internship scheme to other students?  

Yes, I would recommend this internship scheme to other student because I personally am not sure where my future will take me, so I valued gaining experience, learning about a new workplace and sector, and gaining something to put on my cv.
