Name of Student: Caitlin

Job Title: Marketing and Publishing Intern

Description of Organisation:

Originally founded in 1960, David and Charles is a leader in illustrated non-fiction publishing with a focus on craft and creative categories. From our base in Exeter, Devon, we publish around 50 new books each year which we distribute globally. We are the exclusive UK sales and marketing distributor for Dover Publications. Alongside our books, we run the distance learning website rsnonlinecourses.com, in partnership with the Royal School of Needlework.

What was your biggest achievement on your internship?

I was given responsibility to email external partners as well as influencers and clients. This responsibility taught me skills which not many employers trust interns with, especially on a short term basis, however the company were fully open to giving me the most of what I could out of my time there. I was able to develop skills in communicating with external partners and clients which increased my confidence in the role too.

Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these?

A challenge I overcame during the internship was personal as I lived in Torquay and had to commute to Exeter each day, I overcame the challenge of the distance by planning my time well, allowing extra time for delay.

Would you recommend this internship scheme to other students?

Yes, I would recommend this internship scheme. I would love to do it again.
