Description of Organisation: The Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Exeter is a hub for cutting-edge research, education, and innovation in medical imaging technologies and applications. Leveraging state-of-the-art facilities and collaborations with healthcare providers, the department drives research into imaging methodologies, aiming to improve early diagnosis, patient outcomes, and the overall efficiency of healthcare systems.
What was your biggest achievement on your internship?
I presented at the United Kingdom Imaging and Oncology Conference (UKIO) where I was awarded the UKIO Academic Bursary and where I also won the Society and College of Radiographers Forder Memorial Prize for the best proffered paper presentation by a Student Radiographer. I now understand what it takes to pursue research in my area and how to communicate this. I have learnt about different research methods, data analysis and understanding and facilitated Public Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities.
Were there any challenges and how did you overcome these?
I think balancing the exam period alongside the busy upcoming conference presentation was the most challenging part of this role. My supervisors were very understanding of this and I was still able to produce highly graded exam results and an award winning presentation!
Would you recommend this internship scheme to other students?
Yes I would recommend the A2i scheme to other eligible students as it can lead to further career opportunities. Since finishing this project I have gone on to secure an internship in Public Health research with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
