Organisation Summary:
A person dies by suicide every 40 seconds somewhere in the world and in the UK every 90 minutes.
Suicide is a leading cause of premature mortality worldwide, with more than 6500 people dying by suicide in the UK annually. In England and Wales, ethnic disparities in suicide mortality have been reported, with high rates of suicide observed in individuals who self-identify as White or having a Mixed ethnic heritage in both sexes, and evidence suggests that rates in these groups are increasing. This risk does not appear to be explained by socioeconomic differences.
Goodwill in Action To Prevent Suicide CIO are a small, nimble, flexible and responsive Charity run by a dedicated team of volunteers and specialist associates. We work with spirit of cooperation, campaigning, collaborating, and communicating across wide range of stakeholders, supporting the development of the understanding of suicide prevention and the promotion of health and wellbeing.
How did hosting an intern via the Professional Pathways programme benefit you and your organisation?
The interns helped to fulfil a request from the Charity Commission for the provision of a Volunteer Handbook and Induction Pack. They also worked on updating current projects with a range of ideas.
Given the Professional Pathways internship is 35 hours in total, how would you recommend ensuring both you and your interns gain as much as possible from the experience?
Trusting their innate wisdom and giving them the choice and flexibility without too much direction enables them to thrive beyond any pre conceived ideas that I may have had.
As all our interns worked remotely, we had pre-start zoom meetings, along with mid and post internship meetings which were all recorded and shared through AI.
