If you haven\u2019t already seen, the event\u202fExCode <\/strong>is starting soon. This is a free 6-week coding course<\/strong>\u00a0designed to teach the basics of Python to students who have little to no prior experience coding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the last 20 years, jobs requiring coding have been on the rise – a trend that will likely continue. These openings are not only for software engineers but also for many professions across all sectors that require at least a rudimentary understanding of coding, as it is such a widely used technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ExCode\u202fwill teach you the basics of Python to a high standard. It is one of the most intuitive, functional, and employable programming languages available. The course has consistently received excellent reviews, has a low dropout rate, and even helped us win the Students’ Guild Development Award<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon completion of the course, you will earn a Python certificate<\/strong>, demonstrating that you have a basic understanding of the language and can use it to write simple, effective programs. By attending, your job opportunities will be greatly expanded, as it demonstrates to prospective employers that you have a good understanding of how such an important technology is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course\u202fwill be run every Tuesday evening for 6 weeks (excluding Reading Week), starting on 8 October<\/strong>. It will be hosted at 19:00<\/strong>\u00a0in the Alumni Auditorium<\/strong>\u00a0and\u202fwill\u202flast approximately 90 minutes, with an online cohort running in parallel. The course will be divided into two sections: a 30-minute lecture from\u202fme, Lorenzo<\/strong>, and a 60-minute tutorial section where\u202fyou\u202fwill implement what\u202fyou\u2019ve\u202flearned with the help of\u202four\u202fworkshop leaders.\u202fThe\u202fworkshop leaders\u202fare all 2nd-4th\u202fyear computer science students, with a few exceptions, and are all exceptionally well qualified and trained to teach the basics of Python.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course is completely free and is designed for students of all disciplines, particularly those with no prior experience in computer science, even if some optional more advanced material will be provided. If you want to sign up with a friend to be in the same tutorial group, you can do so by noting their name when signing up. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
