It was a pleasure to welcome law alumna Sarah Turvill back to campus to open the University’s Multifaith Centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The purpose-built Sarah Turvill Multifaith Centre is open to students and staff to drop in from 5am to midnight (swipe card access is required before 8am and after 8pm)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nWe are thrilled to name the new centre after Sarah Turvill. Sarah has contributed so much to our University over a long period of time, and it is an honour to be able to recognise her friendship and generosity in this way.<\/p>\nLisa Roberts, President and Vice Chancellor<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nAfter graduating from Exeter in 1975, Ms Turvill took her Barrister\u2019s exams at the College of Law and joined Willis as an in-house lawyer in 1978.\u00a0 She went on to become Chief Executive of its international operations in 2001 and was made Chairman in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sarah has contributed significantly to initiatives at the University such as establishing a PhD scholarship programme for Black British students, social mobility and the Living Systems Institute. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nI am thrilled that this important project has come to fruition. It demonstrates the University\u2019s commitment to its whole community, to diversity and inclusion and to multiculturalism.<\/p>\nSarah Turvill<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nDuring the week you can visit the centre and talk with the duty chaplain. There are often open activities being run that you are welcome to join in with. The details are on the Centre’s events page and social media for more up to date information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wander outside to enjoy the planting around the facility which has all been carefully chosen for both their scent and for their symbolism in faith traditions. This includes olive trees for peace, hyssop for purification and cleansing, and irises which symbolise hope and faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you prefer some time and space to yourself, the centre has a peaceful Multifaith room that you may use to take some time out of busy campus life to rest, reflect, meditate or pray. The Muslim Prayer Space is also located in the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Groups can book spaces are for faith or spiritual wellbeing activities.
