{"id":4945,"date":"2025-03-31T09:51:56","date_gmt":"2025-03-31T09:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/lawbulletin\/?p=4945"},"modified":"2025-03-31T11:56:56","modified_gmt":"2025-03-31T11:56:56","slug":"colonial-apathy-and-epistemic-injustice-in-the-nhs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/lawbulletin\/2025\/03\/31\/colonial-apathy-and-epistemic-injustice-in-the-nhs\/","title":{"rendered":"Colonial Apathy and Epistemic Injustice in the NHS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/26634-swati-gola\">Dr. Swati Gola<\/a> recently organised a roundtable on<strong> \u2018Colonial Apathy and Epistemic Injustice in the NHS\u2019<\/strong>. With the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalcentredevon.org.uk\/\">Devon Development Education<\/a> consultant Sandhya Dave we invited guests from minoritised ethnic communities in Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk\/funding\/ba-leverhulme-small-research-grants\/\">BA\/Leverhulme funded project,<\/a> they discussed how the communities perceive their traditional\/indigenous health knowledge, how they share their use within and outside their communities, the negative perception of the biomedicine practitioners and the impact coloniality of knowledge has on the larger understanding of traditional health knowledge systems across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A follow-up meeting was organised to discuss the draft questionnaire based on the roundtable discussion that will be used for the future research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community members appreciated learning about the concept of coloniality of knowledge that made them revisit their relationship with their traditional knowledge. They expressed the need for further research and more community outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Community artist Anne Madray beautifully captured the discussion on the day itself and created an artistic output.
