Our ‘Law in the City’ Community Law Clinic session took place in the heart of Exeter at the University’s Innovation Hub <\/a>on Friday 7 June and was supported by Trowers & Hamlins<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such is the demand for legal advice that we had people queuing 30 minutes before we opened our doors. The Clinic gives students hands on experience of working with real legal problems and working directly with members of the public. They are supported through the process with experienced legal professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 9 student volunteers met with 16 clients whose queries covered many areas of law including immigration, family, employment, housing, property, civil and consumer. Some clients were getting advice in more than one area of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students thoroughly enjoyed the day, and expressed how much the Clinic has helped them to build their legal and their people skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a lot of support from friends in the local legal community who gave their time on the day. Alongside our own Kim McDonald<\/a>, we had support from Jake Pritchard, Teignbridge Citizens Advice Bureau; Christopher Naish, (retired) Magdalen Chambers; Tom Sampford and a team from Trowers and Hamlin; Nicole Hambleton from Michelmores; Thomas Glover and a team from The Family Law Company by Hartnell Chanot Law Co.; and Phoebe Mitchell from Magdalen Chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were also joined by Law School alumni Lewis Dean and Zo\u00eb Bushby, as well as staff from other parts of the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
