{"id":5793,"date":"2025-10-22T16:35:41","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T16:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/lawbulletin\/?p=5793"},"modified":"2025-10-29T16:08:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T16:08:22","slug":"law-school-negotiation-competition-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/lawbulletin\/2025\/10\/22\/law-school-negotiation-competition-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Law School Negotiation Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-very-light-gray-to-cyan-bluish-gray-gradient-background has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Details:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc65 <strong>Teams of 2<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udcc5 <strong>First round begins<\/strong>: Week of <strong>Monday 10 November<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udd54 <strong>Register by<\/strong>: <strong>5pm, Wednesday 5 November<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udce7 Email: <strong>mooting@exeter.ac.uk<\/strong> with the subject title &#8216;Negotiation Competition&#8217;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Law School is pleased to announce a school-wide negotiation competition to take place this term.\u00a0 This competition will be open to all undergraduate and post-graduate taught students.\u00a0 The first round of the competition will take place in the week commencing <strong>Monday 10\u00a0November.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To participate in the competition, you will need to be in a team of 2 students.&nbsp;<strong> It is up to you who you pair with and so please only register your interest once you have formed your team.<\/strong>&nbsp; Each team will compete against another team in a scenario-based negotiation.&nbsp; The ability to negotiate effectively is a key legal skill utilised daily by barristers and solicitors alike.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teams in the competition will be scored on <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>planning, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>teamwork, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rapport building, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>information gathering, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bargaining, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ethics, <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>self-analysis <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and the outcome of the scenario.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Teams will be provided with the scenarios ahead of time and so each team will have an opportunity to prepare before their allocated slot.&nbsp; Each team will compete against another randomly assigned team. Teams will be marked according to a scoring matrix. The four highest scoring teams from the first round will progress to the final.&nbsp; <strong>The final will be held on a further date to be confirmed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The highest scoring team from the final will be the winners.&nbsp; The winners and second-place team will then be eligible to go on and represent the University and Law School at CEDR National Student Negotiation Competition 2026.&nbsp; Details of previous CEDR competitions can be found here &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cedr.com%2Ffoundation%2Fcurrentprojects%2Fnegotiatorcompetition%2F&amp;data=05%7C02%7CS.Miller%40exeter.ac.uk%7C220ccbb601254d10581c08de117665a5%7C912a5d77fb984eeeaf321334d8f04a53%7C0%7C0%7C638967397357810119%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=FkyUlrSOZTHrsCGLutAzPzqWT5k7DBmI320IlbfdJjQ%3D&amp;reserved=0\">www.cedr.com\/foundation\/currentprojects\/negotiatorcompetition\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedr.com\/foundation\/currentprojects\/negotiatorcompetition\/\">CEDR National Student Negotiation Competition<\/a> have the opportunity to represent England in the International Student Negotiation Competition.&nbsp; We have some excellent history with negotiation competitions \u2013 the team from Exeter won the National competition in 2022 and came second in the international finals the same year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a fantastic opportunity for all students to get involved and to develop a key legal skill in the form of negotiation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note that the deadline for registration of the teams of 2 students is by 5pm on Wednesday<\/strong> <strong>5 November 2025<\/strong>. &nbsp;Please register your team by emailing <a href=\"mailto:mooting@exeter.ac.uk\">mooting@exeter.ac.uk<\/a>&nbsp;with the name and email address of both students in each team. The subject heading of your email should state &#8216;Negotiation Competition&#8217;.
