Will Ellis – Charity Fundraiser

On the 19th April, Will Ellis and three others will be doing a 45-mile loaded march carrying 32lbs of kit to raise money for the Mark Evison Foundation.  The Foundation was set up in 2009 in memory of Lt Mark Evison, an Old Robinite who was tragically killed on patrol in Afghanistan whilst serving with the Welsh Guards regiment. He was known to be a truly inspirational character. An Army report said the following about him:

“An exceptionally impressive young officer. He is bright, positive, fit, robust and charismatic… Importantly he is set apart from his contemporaries because he combines real talent with great humility and charm. He also maintains many interests outside the army and is a talented musician… His soldiers have nicknamed him ‘007’ which, whilst humorous, does indicate their respect for his ability.  He cares very deeply for his men and takes great trouble to ensure than they never want for anything”.

The Foundation’s mission is to “promote the personal development of young people through the undertaking of challenges”. They partner with schools in London to help young people to create and plan projects which are personally challenging. Such projects develop “confidence, strength, resilience and breadth, as applicants take independent ownership of something they are keen to do”.

The 32lbs of weight replicates carrying body armour and a rifle, just like Mark did when on patrol in Afghanistan. The march is 15 miles longer than the Royal Marines final commando test, carrying the same weight, so will be a phenomenally tough challenge. However, raising money for such an amazing cause will help me push through!

Your donations can fund projects such as these, making a real difference to people who, without the help of the foundation, would have limited opportunities to finance these projects.
