SCP 6157 Research Assistant (The Governance of AI in Specific Sectors)

Role Description

Purpose of the Role  This internship is designed to provide a student with the opportunity to learn and assist in research on the governance of AI in specific sectors, including health and medicine, genomics and genetics, and related issues of policy, including broader issues of governance. The internship will also provide the opportunity to assist in identifying relevant institutions, activities, and programs internationally. The successful candidate will also engage with the identification and analysis of ethical issues and regulation theory.

Operational Risk Intern

Ardian’s Risk Management team is offering an internship in the London office to assist in the implementation of its risk management framework. The Risk function is based in London and Paris and is a key part of Ardian’s group control functions. The London Team are responsible for managing risks in its non-EU entities – UK, Jersey, Switzerland, US, Chile, Japan, China, Korea and Singapore.

This is an amazing opportunity for 1st year law (and 2nd law for those studying a 4 year law degree) and 1st/2nd year non-law undergraduates to gain invaluable work experience in a commercial law firm over the summer. We are looking to host 10 students across our Bristol, Exeter and Southampton offices. You will get to work with fee earners in the business, speak to our trainees and really get to understand what makes Foot Anstey different and what we look for in our trainee solicitors.

This 6-month scheme is an unmissable opportunity to receive tailored guidance in your sector to equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge for your future career – all from the perspective of someone who was once in your shoes.

  • Dr Mauro Boero is the Senior Patent Examiner at the European Patent Office, and is based in the Netherlands. Mauro has an extensive background in examining and granting patents, and in IP knowledge. 
  • Jemma Emmerson, a Barrister at Attias and Levy in Gibralter, has had a varied legal career, including as a legal assistant for a football club and a legal editor. She is therefore the perfect mentor for any students wishing to gain an insight into Law, and can also advise on journalism.
  • Matthew Rundle is a Real Estate Solicitor at Trowers & Hamlins LLP. His role involves dealing with land sales, deeds for easements and assisting on large scale transactions.
  • Stuart Smallman is Family Solicitor for Risdon Hosegood Solicitors in Taunton. He meets clients on daily and weekly basis and prepares for court hearings and advocacy. He has over 30 years experience in this industry and has dealt with everything from Wills to Divorce.
  • Julian Summerhayes has varied experience, work as in-house counsel at Centrax Limited in Torquay; as well as In-House Contracts and Legal Advisor at Microtest Health Solutions; and a Consultant for Nash & Co Solicitors.

Volunteering Opportunity: Make Education Fairer!

CoachBright are looking for students in Cornwall to work with disadvantaged school pupils to help them improve their grades, confidence and access to university. As we navigate life in a post-covid world, it’s more important than ever that our most disadvantaged pupils are getting the support they need. Join us to help make education fairer!

It’s just one online session a week for a total of 15 hours of tutoring. You’ll get full training in how to coach and will be paired with pupils and work together in an academic subject of your choice.

By volunteering with us, you will…

Role Description

Harris & Harris is a small traditional legal firm and the placement would be to carry out administrative tasks such as photocopying, scanning and filing, as well as assisting with preparing court bundles, helping with conveyancing transactions and Wills and attending court with fee earners. There will also be the opportunity to attend site meetings and client meetings with fee earners.


You will have the opportunity to work in each department within the firm on a weekly basis building up knowledge in the following areas: Conveyancing, Wills & Probate, Litigation, Employment, Ecclesiastical and Family Law.


The successful student will require some good legal knowledge having completed 1 & 2 of the Law Degree and a working knowledge of Word, Excel and Windows.
