Dear students,

As we reach the end of the first half of Term 1 we wanted to thank you for all your enthusiasm and commitment to your courses and to wish you a very well deserved break!

This term has been full of activities organised across the Department and it is difficult to pull out a few highlights from all the great speakers and workshops that there have been. What we can say is that everyone who visits us comments upon what an impressive group of people you are and how engaged you are. The comments of the President of the Law Society of England and Wales who visited us in September is very typical, when she said that you were the best group of students that she had spoken to in her time as President and a credit to the University. We could not have put it better ourselves!

We know that issues with timetabling and modules have been particularly difficult. We are really grateful for all your feedback which we highlighted in our departmental submission to the university review of what went wrong this term. We feel very confident that your concerns have been heard and that there will be positive change as a result.

For our first years, we’re so pleased that you have completed your first six weeks as an undergraduate with us at University of Exeter, Cornwall Campuses. As you know this first part of Term 1 is devoted to induction and supporting your transition to university. The second half of Term 1 we will be focussing on supporting you in work planning and in understanding assessments and feedback. We would like to ask you to take a few minutes to reflect on what has been helpful to you so far in making that transition and to look forward to what your needs might be in the second half of Term 1 by filling in this short questionnaire.

As always, we welcome any comments, concerns and suggestions. If you need to get in touch with us for any reason please use our new address HaSSCornwall-Education@exeter.ac.uk.

From us all, rest well and we look forward to you joining us for the next part of Term 1,

Caroline on behalf of the whole HaSS Cornwall Education Team

Wishing you all the best,

Humanities and Social Sciences Team

Kind regards,

Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Cornwall
