Learning Anglo-French

Thomas Hinton

Principal Investigator

Tom Hinton is Associate Professor of French Language and Literature at the University of Exeter, and is the Principal Investigator on the project. He has worked on Anglo-French material since 2013, and was the Principal Investigator on the 2020-22 AHRC-funded project, ‘Learning French in Medieval England‘. The principal output of LFIME (currently in preparation) is the first digital edition of Walter de Bibbesworth’s influential Tretiz, one of the most widely-copied texts for the teaching and learning of French in this period and a key witness to many of the central questions of this project.

As Principal Investigator, Tom will lead on building the database and the textual analysis that underpins it, sharing editing responsibilities with Edward Mills. He also has overall responsibility for managing the project.
