Research IT Developer

Lucie Mingmei Hao is a Research IT Developer in the Research IT team, based in the Digital Humanities Lab at the University of Exeter. As part of the project team, Lucie is the developer on Learning Anglo-French, contributing to the creation of an eXist-db native XML database and web interface for manuscripts and their constituent texts. Her work includes designing and implementing the database architecture and interface, as well as developing the XQuery functionality, XSLT transformations and XML schemas.
She is exploring ways to bring together textual data, images, metadata, biocodicological information and bibliography within a manuscript-centred data model. The LAF resource is designed to present multiple interconnected views of each manuscript, allowing users to navigate between different layers of information and linked records. By connecting the TEI encoded texts, database and user interface, she is helping to build an open-access research resource that presents the project’s findings in interactive, searchable and reusable formats.
Alongside the database and editions, she is also developing a mapping tool using GIS technologies to visualise the origins and provenance of specific texts and manuscripts. This tool will offer new ways of exploring how these materials were produced, transmitted, and studied across medieval Britain.
