He places the locus of greatest impact this motif exerted in children\u2019s fantasy fiction of the 1960s&nbsp;and 70s.&nbsp;Hutton concludes: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">\u2018With this the sudden&nbsp;and intense surge of interest in the motif by novelists came to&nbsp;an&nbsp;end,&nbsp;and&nbsp;[\u2026]&nbsp;it does not seem to have exercised much traction on British authors of fiction since\u2019. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Milon\u2019s paper however, asserts that this is staunchly inaccurate assesment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"181\" height=\"279\" data-id=\"1719\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/magic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2026\/01\/download-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1719\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"325\" height=\"500\" data-id=\"1723\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/magic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2026\/01\/ckuwte1nu10114781j7a3at9hybe.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1723\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/magic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2026\/01\/ckuwte1nu10114781j7a3at9hybe.jpg 325w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/magic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2026\/01\/ckuwte1nu10114781j7a3at9hybe-195x300.jpg 195w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"177\" height=\"285\" data-id=\"1721\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/magic\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/293\/2026\/01\/images.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1721\" \/><\/figure>\n<figcaption class=\"blocks-gallery-caption wp-element-caption\"><em>Some of the texts, mentioned by Milon, which centralise the modern impact of The Wild Hunt<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Far from disappearing, Milon offers up the case that in the first decades of the 21<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;century, <strong>the Wild Hunt&nbsp;<\/strong>and one of its leaders, <strong>Herne the Hunter<\/strong>, are experiencing a dramatic return to popularity equally in pagan&nbsp;spaces, in non-fiction&nbsp;and in the&nbsp;paganesque&nbsp;settings of fantasy literature. Ranging&nbsp;from reimagined Hunts conjured by <strong>Zoe Gilbert<\/strong>&nbsp;and <strong>Lucy Holland<\/strong>,&nbsp;to Herne\u2019s role as the denizen of national&nbsp;and natural landscapes explored by <strong>Nick Hayes<\/strong>, to new histories of the motif by <strong>Edmund Newell&nbsp;and Rowan&nbsp;Hunter<\/strong>, Herne\u2019s Wild Hunt seems to fit perfectly into the zeitgeist of our time.
