Hi
Does anyone know what the weird symbol that divides the names at the end of this will is please? In some of its renditions it looks a bit like the modern @. I sort of want it to say ‘by’ as that would make sense but I don’t think it does and I’ve not seen anything like it before.
It occurs between ‘performed’ and ‘Willm’, ‘and’ and Thomas’, both in line 17, and in a slightly different form between each of the names in line 19.

Hi Jan
I'm afraid the link doesn't work for me. I can't paste an image of what I think you're seeing here either, but if it's what I think it is I believe it's an abbrevation for Master. I'm not sure if that works in your context, but I've come across it in lists of witnesses in wills from the early sixteenth century.
Hope that helps a bit and happy to be corrected if I'm wrong!
Anne-Marie.
The two lists of witnesses I have had were just a list of names separated by commas, so sorry I can't help.
