Professor Joe Jarvis, a recognized leader in global health has been appointed as Honorary member with the University of Exeter and the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology. His expertise and established networks within the international clinical mycology communities significantly complement our ongoing and planned activities in the MRC CMM, and will greatly support both our basic and clinical research and training initiatives.

Prof Joe Jarvis is currently an NIHR Global Health Research Professor, currently based between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Gaborone, Botswana, whose main research interests are advanced HIV disease and opportunistic infections, particularly cryptococcal meningitis. Joe was the Chief Investigator for the AMBITION-cm trial examining new treatments for HIV-associated cryptococcal meningitis in Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, and Uganda. Joe is a member of the external review group for the WHO Guidelines for Managing Advanced HIV Disease and Rapid Initiation of Antiretroviral Therapy, and a guidelines development group member for WHO guidelines on preventing, diagnosing, and managing cryptococcal disease in HIV infected adults, adolescents and children. Joe is currently co-lead on another trial (Imprint) which aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment of the four major HIV-associated fungal infections of public health importance and involves groups in the UK, Africa and Asia.
