This is happening,\u00a0minds\u00a0are changing, and peace is emerging.\u00a0It is\u00a0due to\u00a0this clear change and the visible\u00a0improvement within the individual, within relationships among peers, within relationships between staff and inmates and between\u00a0inmates and their families, that\u00a0the Mindful trainees feel such motivation to share the word of Mindfulness within prisons and beyond the bars!!<\/p>\n<p>The impact Mindfulness Plus has had upon the inmates has been so poignant and life-changing that they want to spread their learning to their families, their children, their\u00a0communities and the world!!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Outreach is happening from the inside out!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mindful Leaders across many of the prisons are busy creating resources and have aspirations to reach the youth of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>They have ideas and\u00a0have created plans and strategies for how these teachings could work in their locality \u2013 and it is already happening\u00a0on a small scale.<\/p>\n<p><em>So far:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mindful Leaders\/trainees who are fortunate enough to have family visits have taught their families the techniques they use in order to live with hope, manage their emotions and make mindful choices.\u00a0\u00a0 insert stitches brothers story here &#8211; as case study<br \/>\nThis has been life-changing.<\/li>\n<li>Inmates who were Mindful trainees and have left prison plan to return to complete their training \u2013\u00a0this is possible because of the wonderful \u2018open door policy\u2019 introduced to all Kenyan prisons. Thereafter they wish to share Mindfulness with their local football teams and neighbourhoods.<\/li>\n<li>All institutions have created songs, dramas and creative artwork and poems that will allow them to\u00a0share the message and teachings of Mindfulness with a range of audiences in a captivating and engaging way. The wealth of rich learning resources and materials being created is amazing.<\/li>\n<li>Naivasha Maximum Security prison has already created two music videos that illustrate the journey and teachings of Mindfulness. When in prison, as part of Mindful Leader Erick&#8217;s rehabilitation, he and the other Mindful Leaders created Mindful songs &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/t.sidekickopen69.com\/e1t\/c\/5\/f18dQhb0S7lM8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJN7t5X-Ff4Yc8N1pNnzvd3_yKW9cVd7M11fj5b0?t=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FOzMIZx2QW-E&amp;si=7000000000046630&amp;pi=fe3bd0ac-12b7-4531-f784-79f315701d18\"><em>Mindful Leaders\u00a0<\/em><\/a>and the <a href=\"http:\/\/t.sidekickopen69.com\/e1t\/c\/5\/f18dQhb0S7lM8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJN7t5X-Ff4Yc8N1pNnzvd3_yKW9cVd7M11fj5b0?t=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dcm0Z7UOpURk&amp;si=7000000000046630&amp;pi=fe3bd0ac-12b7-4531-f784-79f315701d18\"><em>Mindful Generation\u00a0<\/em><\/a>. He is going to use music and these songs to connect to young people, selling CDs of the music to help fund the project sustainably. He will develop other innovative ways to engage people in his Mindulness Revolution. Eric shared:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cToday here I am \u2013\u00a0strong again. I have overcome my mental pain and at last, though in prison, I\u2019m free again. I have come to realise that the day Dr Inma introduced Mindfulness to my soul, that was the first day of the rest of my life.\u201d <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The potential is huge, the foundations are strong and the passion is fuelled. We now need support to make these dreams a reality and reach far and wide.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>About Eric the Mindful Rapper<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-414 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/mindfulleaderskenya\/files\/2018\/02\/Daddy-Cool-Erick-Mwangi-Rapper-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/>In 2016 Eric was lost and sitting alone somewhere in the largest Maximum security prison in Kenya (Naivasha). In his words <strong>\u201c<\/strong><strong>I lost everything from my self-esteem, courage and I seemed to be out of my mind. The only thing I was left with is my weak soul and it nearly escaped from me<\/strong><strong>\u201d.<\/strong> He had no hope but he was found by one of the mindful leaders (fellow inmate) and he was invited to attend their mindful leaders programme. That was the beginning of a amazing transformational journey. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.exeter.ac.uk\/innerrehabilitation\/blog\/2017\/07\/29\/daddy-cool-erico-the-mindful-rapper-mindfulness-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel\/#more-566\">Read his story<\/a><\/p>\n<p>From a <strong>\u201cwild child<\/strong>\u201d he has transformed into the \u201cmindful rapper\u201d.\u00a0 His embodied learning is reflected in his songs and he is now outside the prison working as a mindful ambassador.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>About the songs<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First it came the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/t.sidekickopen69.com\/e1t\/c\/5\/f18dQhb0S7lM8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJN7t5X-Ff4Yc8N1pNnzvd3_yKW9cVd7M11fj5b0?t=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FOzMIZx2QW-E&amp;si=7000000000046630&amp;pi=fe3bd0ac-12b7-4531-f784-79f315701d18\">Mindful Leaders<\/a> Anthem <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Among many other things, it notes that being a mindful leader means being \u201cawake, alert and attentive\u201d. He includes some of the teachings such as using the mindfulness technique on the go \u201cthe inner radio\u201d and also he says that \u201cwe need to be the change in the world that we wish to see\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Then\u00a0 came the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cm0Z7UOpURk&amp;t=5s\"><em>Mindful generation <\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here he is describing what characterises the mindful generation and he is inviting the audience to \u201ccome to join our revolution\u201d among many other things. He talks about how this generation can manage their emotions, even under pressure they can still focus. They have gratitude, sense of humour and they are merciful. He also talks about mindfulness as &#8216;<em>living in the now.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>From the outside inside!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So far this year we have been approached by two separate organisations based in Kenya, both of whom have seen the media coverage and wish to be part of this movement to live more mindfully \u2013\u00a0for themselves and for\u00a0the people they work with.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0charity working with children in schools in rural Kenya and an organisation working with communities in relation to domestic violence\u00a0are wishing\u00a0to partner with us to learn,\u00a0in order to\u00a0reach these large demographics of people, school children and vulnerable women and children. It is very exciting and we are looking forward to working together and seeing these partnerships flourish.
