About

This site is run by me, Daniel Ogden, Professor of Ancient History in the University of Exeter. I had initial help in mounting the material from…  The starting-point is the texts collected for my three books on the ancient and medieval dragon:

  • Ogden, D. 2013. Drakōn: Dragon Myth and Serpent Cult in the Greek and Roman World. OUP: Oxford.
  • Ogden, D. 2013. Dragons, Serpents and Slayers in the Classical and Early Christian Worlds: A Sourcebook. OUP USA: New York.
  • Ogden, D. (forthcoming) The Dragon in the West. OUP: Oxford.

If you’re wondering why, for the most part, the translations supplied here are not those I made myself for the Sourcebook, it’s to avoid compromising my own and OUP’s copyright.
