{"id":1413,"date":"2026-03-30T09:36:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T09:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/per\/?p=1413"},"modified":"2026-03-30T09:36:27","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T09:36:27","slug":"hatherleigh-science-fair-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/per\/2026\/03\/30\/hatherleigh-science-fair-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Hatherleigh Science Fair 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Bringing science to audiences of all ages, Hatherleigh Science boasts a series of public evening lectures and&nbsp;a day-long Saturday science fair that invites members of the public to get involved with science in interactive and engaging ways, taking world-leading research outside of university cities and bringing it to new&nbsp;rural&nbsp;audiences.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors flocked to West Devon for this year\u2019s science festival, featuring a mix of different stalls and activities, each inviting attendees of different ages\u00a0to\u00a0investigate the sciences.\u00a0Taking place on the\u00a014<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0March 2026, this year\u2019s Saturday celebration, hosted in Hatherleigh Community Centre, highlighted research from the University, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exeterbrc.nihr.ac.uk\/\">NIHR Biomedical Research Centre<\/a>, with AI-themed interactive stalls from <a href=\"https:\/\/exetersciencecentre.org\/\">Exeter Science Centre<\/a>. The event is \u00a0part of the ongoing mission to improve STEM access and engagement in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Craig Beall, from the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, is the\u00a0co-founder and organiser of Hatherleigh Science Group, which coordinates\u00a0the events associated with Hatherleigh Science Fair. This endeavour is supported by the University of Exeter, NIHR Biomedical Research Centre Exeter, Society for Endocrinology, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishscienceassociation.org\/\">British Science Association<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nc3rs.org.uk\/who-we-are\/3rs\">NC3Rs<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biochemistry.org\/\">Biochemical Society<\/a> and the local town councillors. This seeks to make science accessible and entertaining for everyone, regardless of their background or\u00a0previous\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Science festivals can be\u00a0a great opportunity\u00a0for researchers to bring their work to new\u00a0audiences, and\u00a0see the positive impact that STEM engagement can have.\u00a0\u00a0Not only do audiences go away with a new understanding of research taking place across the south west, but researchers can have their work informed by the perspectives and ideas of people with whom they may not otherwise interact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find out more about the success of this year\u2019s Hatherleigh Science Fair, and follow updates on Hatherleigh Science Week 2027 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/view\/hatherleighscience\/home\">Hatherleigh Science website<\/a>.
