{"id":1173,"date":"2024-10-30T15:58:55","date_gmt":"2024-10-30T15:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/?page_id=1173"},"modified":"2024-10-30T15:58:55","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T15:58:55","slug":"what-was-folk-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/what-was-folk-us\/","title":{"rendered":"What was Folk.us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"312\" height=\"280\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2024\/10\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2024\/10\/image.png 312w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2024\/10\/image-300x269.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"124\" height=\"124\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2024\/01\/image.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1127\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The idea for Folk.us came from Annie Mitchell, was the Clinical Director, Doctorate in Clinical and Community Psychology, University of Exeter, now Clinical Director at School of Psychology (Faculty of Health &amp; Human Sciences), University of Plymouth.<br>In the mid to late 1990s Annie, along with service users and carers and other colleagues had decided that if the way research was developed and undertaken did not include the people it was supposed to be about then it was not really going to be of much use.<br><br>This led to the \u2018Research Who\u2019s It For Anyway?\u2019 Conference held in 1999 and funding for a network of researchers, service users and carers and practitioners \u2013 Folk.us<br><br>Annie was the Folk.us Lead from 2000 until 2003.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u00a0\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"103\" height=\"62\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2024\/01\/image-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1137\" style=\"width:138px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator aligncenter has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"109\" height=\"115\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/relationalhealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2024\/01\/image-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1131\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">In 2003 Prof Katrina Wyatt, (University of Exeter Medical School) became the Folk.us lead.<br><br>From 2000 until March 2014 Folk.us was funded by the Department of Health in various forms finishing with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).\u00a0We have been part of University of Exeter, Research and Development Support Unit,\u00a0Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry and finally University of Exeter Medical School.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What was the Folk.us aim?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-decoration:underline\">The Folk.us Aim<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Forum for Collaboration with users in Research,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To create a research culture which is\u00a0 meaningfully controlled and influenced by\u00a0\u00a0 those who use, or care for those who use,\u00a0 services, to ensure that research and implementation\u00a0 is focused on ordinary folks\u2019 real concerns in North and East Devon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-decoration:underline\">The Folk.us Aim <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To support and develop patient, service user and carer involvement in health and social care research activities to ensure that those who use services and those who care for those who use services inform and guide research at all stages.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What was the Folk.us aim?
