{"id":75,"date":"2023-08-14T16:14:32","date_gmt":"2023-08-14T16:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/reprogenomics\/?page_id=75"},"modified":"2025-12-08T15:37:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T15:37:13","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/reprogenomics\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We work as part of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.exeter.ac.uk\/research\/diabetes-research\/research\/complextrait\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.exeter.ac.uk\/research\/diabetes-research\/research\/complextrait\/\" target=\"_blank\">Genetics of Complex Traits Team<\/a>&nbsp;in the <a href=\"http:\/\/(https:\/\/medicine.exeter.ac.uk\/research\/clinicalandbiomedicalsciences\/)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.exeter.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Exeter Medical School<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/2938-anna-murray\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Professor Anna Murray<\/strong><\/a><br>Anna is Professor of Human Genetics and Director of Research and Impact for the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences. Her main research expertise is in the field of reproductive genetics and she has published on single gene mutations which cause premature ovarian failure and also genome-wide studies to detect novel loci involved in reproductive ageing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr Julia Prague<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>Julia is a clinical academic in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and General Internal Medicine at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and University of Exeter. Her research interests include menopausal symptoms and potential new treatments, and the impact of the menopause transition on glycaemic control in diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/24739-kate-ruth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Dr Katherine Ruth<\/strong><\/a><br>Kate is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences. Her research interests and publications are in using health records data to conduct genome-wide analyses of the genetics of reproductive traits and their effects on health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/42888-marina-vabistsevits\">Marina Vabistsevits<\/a><\/strong> <br>Marina is a postdoctoral research fellow who was awarded her PhD from the University of Bristol in 2023. Marina&#8217;s thesis investigated the role of mammographic density on breast cancer risk. Marina joined the team in February 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rebecca Kingdom<\/strong><br>Becca is a postdoctoral research associate who did her PhD on the penetrance of rare genomic variants associated with developmental disorders, at Exeter, with Professor Caroline Wright. Becca joind the Reproductive Genomics group in March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/research-information.bris.ac.uk\/en\/persons\/luke-d-j-mahoney\" target=\"_blank\">Luke Mahoney<\/a><br>Luke is a PhD student (Sep 2021- ) jointly supervised by the University of Exeter and University of Bristol, as part of Bristol\u2019s Cancer Research UK Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sophia McDowell<\/strong><br>Sophia is a PhD student (Sep 2023- ) jointly supervised with Dr Jessica Tyrrell at the University of Exeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/43460-alok-singh\">Alok Singh<\/a><\/strong><br>Alok is a Graduate Research Associate who joined the group in May 2024, having completed his undergraduate studies in astrophyics at the University of Hertfordshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Micaella Joaquim<\/strong><br>Micaella is a PhD student (Sep 2024-) funded by the HEALTH-PM grant (EP\/Y031970\/1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/46849-james-godwin\">James Godwin<\/a><\/strong><br>James is a postdoctoral research fellow, who completed his PhD at the University of York. James joined the team in September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Previous students\/staff:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shashank Rao<\/strong>: Summer intern student in 2024, studying at Genetics at Kings College London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saleh Shekari, PhD student (Jan 2020-Dec 2023) jointly supervised by the University of
