Value of a Rural Estate research project

Clinton Devon Estates Message

Thank you for your interest in this survey of Clinton Devon Estates’ stakeholders. The team here at Clinton Devon Estates has commissioned independent researchers at the University of Exeter to carry out this useful piece of work so we can better understand some of the harder-to measure impacts of the estate’s activity to restore nature, support the local community and provide sustainable economic opportunities.

To support this wider piece of research, this survey aims to find out:

  • how well the estate’s values are understood by our tenants, staff, visitors and partners
  • shared goals, levels of trust and participation between ourselves and our stakeholders
  • perceptions of the impact of some of the estate’s activities

We hope to use this piece of work to:

  • understand more about how our actions as an estate impact on the wider community
  • provide a framework to help track our impacts over time
  • help us to benchmark our activity against other similar organisations
  • help guide discussions with policymakers about the wider rural estates community

We have asked the University of Exeter to carry out this work to ensure that it is independent, robust and challenging. The researchers will handle all the data gathered throughout the project and only ever report anonymised findings to us. We want to be sure that our stakeholders feel confident to answer honestly and frankly, so we can learn from the responses we receive.

John Varley OBE,

CEO of Clinton Devon Estates
