{"id":96,"date":"2021-07-20T15:26:28","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T14:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.exeter.ac.uk\/slavicmaternitystudies\/?page_id=96"},"modified":"2021-07-20T15:26:28","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T14:26:28","slug":"exeter-conference","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/slavicmaternitystudies\/academic-conferences\/exeter-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Exeter Conference: White Ink, Red Flag"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>White Ink, Red Flag: Expressing Maternity in Eastern European Culture<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On July 9th 2022, the AHRC-funded <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.exeter.ac.uk\/slavicmaternitystudies\/\">Slavic and East European Maternal Studies Research Network<\/a> (SEEMS) will host a one-day symposium on July 9<sup>th<\/sup>, 2022 in Exeter, UK at the historic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/devonandexeterinstitution.org\/\">Devon and Exeter Institution<\/a>, Cathedral Green, Exeter, for invited UK and international scholars to assess the initial research findings of the network and fine-tune some of its ideas for publication.<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will explore maternal creativity and depictions of motherhood in Slavic and Eastern European cultures. The organizers (Professor <strong>Muireann Maguire<\/strong>, University of Exeter and Dr <strong>Egl\u0117 Ka\u010dkut\u0117<\/strong>, University of Vilnius) welcome papers from a range of disciplines, including literature, art, cinema, and comparative cultural studies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018[A] woman is never far from \u201cmother\u201d [\u2026] There is always within her at least a little of that good mother\u2019s milk. She writes in white ink,\u201d wrote H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Cixous in her influential 1975 essay, \u2018The Laugh of the Medusa\u2019.
