IMG_0633Continuing from the article concerning ‘Technicians made this happen’ where the background to the purchase of two Scanning Electron Microscopes for EMPS, one in Penryn and one on Streatham campus, was outlined, the new Vega 3 TESCAN SEM was opened by Prof Ken Evans last week.

One of the new Vega 3 SEM’s is located in the Imaging Suite, Harrison Building, Streatham campus and features an SEM with increased resolution, an ability to look at samples uncoated and coated in low vacuum, the ability to switch between secondary electron detection and backscatter electron detection, and an Energy Dispersive System for chemical analysis with increased window size for more sensitive detection of light elements.

The SEM is now open for business so if you have a project that needs SEM work or know of a researcher looking for an SEM, please contact Dr Hong Chang in the Imaging Suite, H.Chang@exeter.ac.uk and discuss your project with her. Within EMPS this service is free but we also have very reasonable rates for work from other departments and would welcome external enquiries.
