At the end of April, the MSc Animal Behaviour students went on a week-long field course to Lundy island. Along with three academics from the Centre for Research in Animal Behaviour (CRAB) the Research Technician, Chris Guggiari-Peel, also went on the trip. For such field work on an exposed island in the Bristol channel, good outdoor gear and equipment like binoculars were a necessity. The four student groups were studying the behaviour of feral goats, moths, wheatears and shags. Chris walked the 3-mile-long island each day to catch-up with each group’s progress and help when needed. As a free-lance filmmaker Chris also made the most of the opportunity of the rustic landscape and abundance of wildlife to make a short video.
This video showcases why Lundy is such a great destination for the yearly field course and is on the CRAB website to help in student recruitment. Apart from the high winds delaying the outbound ferry from Ilfracombe for a day, the trip went without a hitch and was enjoyed by all that went.
