{"id":1309,"date":"2021-11-27T08:58:59","date_gmt":"2021-11-27T08:58:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.exeter.ac.uk\/tedfeldpausch\/?p=1309"},"modified":"2023-09-18T19:13:31","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T19:13:31","slug":"quex-workshop-fire-regimes-in-tropical-and-sub-tropical-peatlands-during-the-holocene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/ted-feldpausch\/2021\/11\/27\/quex-workshop-fire-regimes-in-tropical-and-sub-tropical-peatlands-during-the-holocene\/","title":{"rendered":"QUEX Workshop: Fire Regimes in Tropical and Sub-Tropical Peatlands During the Holocene"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/quex-workshop\/november-workshop\/\">two-day hybrid workshop<\/a> (both online and in-person) was held on 25th&nbsp;and 26th&nbsp;November 2021 that included 20 participants from different institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, Colombia, Spain, and Brazil.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">This workshop was paper-oriented, with data from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pastglobalchanges.org\/science\/wg\/peat-carbon\/intro\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/pastglobalchanges.org\/science\/wg\/peat-carbon\/intro\">HOLOPEATFIRE project<\/a>, which focuses on peatlands fires in the Holocene, and seeks potential contributions and assistance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The paper attempts to answer the following questions, around which the workshop discussions were structured.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"has-small-font-size\">\n<li>What are the main climate drivers? For example, what is the relationship between drought events and fire?<\/li>\n<li>How do humans shape the landscape by fire?<\/li>\n<li>Are peatlands behaving the same or different in terms of fire from the rest of the ecosystems?<\/li>\n<li>How can this study inform future fire management in peatlands ecosystems?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The workshop program was divided into 4 sessions. Session 1 included the ice breaker and an introduction to the workshop. Sessions 2 and 3 had the theme of talks and discussions on fire patterns, drivers, and related charcoal analysis.
