UTILE stands for Undergraduate Translation, Interpreting and Language Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This project sets out to identify ways to reframe Undergraduate Translation, Interpreting and Language Education in the face of changing needs. And then make these findings available to educators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has been a while since the last update – here is a glimpse of what I have been doing over the past few months: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In March 2026 I completed all phases of data collection for this project. As anticipated, this was slightly later than in the written schedule. However, planning was designed to take these delays into account and ensure enough time for analysis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thanks to the dedication of all those who signed up, in total, I was able to gather 45 complete sets of data comprising interview and vignette activity transcripts. Forty participants also completed an anonymous final wrap-up survey, providing essential information on what went well in and how to improve the research process, and how participation did or did not impact their practice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
April and June was dedicated to preparing data for analysis, and writing up the data collection phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In May, I was given the opportunity to give a presentation at the Applied Linguistics-3D: Language, IT, ELT: V International Scientific and Practical Conference<\/a>, hosted by the Zhytomyr Polytechnic State University, Ukraine. The abstract can be viewed by clicking on this link here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n June and August have principally been devoted to completing a small-scale systematic review. The protocol for this review was peer-reviewed by Dr. CHONG Sin Wang, KONG Ming Sum. Dr. YUAN Rongjie provided invaluable assistance by testing the protocol, which can be found in the International Database of Education Systematic Reviews (IDESR000234<\/a>). The results of the review will be part of my thesis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n From September until the spring 2027, I will be continuing analysis of participant data and writing in parallel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I look forward to providing more updates, in particular regarding information to be made available to educators working at the interface between translation, interpreting and language education (TILE) once my thesis is completed at the end of the 2026-2027 academic year (if all goes to plan!).
