Tropical Peatlands and the Carbon Cycle

Elise Dehaen, University of Exeter

I am a first-year PhD student at the University of Exeter. My work aims to (1) investigate the environmental and climatic drivers of the carbon sink in pristine tropical peatlands and (2) study their future of carbon balance using the Joint UK Land Environment Simulator (JULES). My supervisors are Prof. Angela Gallego-Sala, Dr Sarah Chadburn, Prof. Stephen Sitch and Dr Jörg Kaduk.

Working on the TroPeaCC project, I am looking forward to learning all about tropical peatlands and gaining some field experience. I am also excited to learn to use and apply JULES to tropical peatlands.
