We had the pleasure of hosting Charles Jjuuko, Paola Alarcon and Michel Mbasi, our TroPeaCC team members from Uganda, Colombia and DRC, as visiting students in Exeter for June. It was a very busy, mutually beneficial and fruitful time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had workshops on peatland ecosystem modelling, methane analysers, methane in plants, eddy covariance, peat age-depth models and scientific writing. Research visits to the University of Bristol and Quanterra Ltd. Excursions to Dartmoor, London, Bristol, Bath and Exmouth beach. Weeks of lab work encompassing pollen analysis, bulk density measurements, loss on ignition, dating, etc. Meetings to discuss various scientific and logistical aspects of the research in the different sites. A peat symposium with >30 attendants. And on top of all that, plenty of social time over lunches, dinners and coffees. Typing all this out makes me realise it was a very intense and full-on month for our visitors. But they showed great resilience and good spirits throughout, probably helped by the gloriously un-British weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many thanks to Charles, Paola and Michel for coming and sharing their valuable insights and enthusiasm! Furthermore, thank you so much for keeping the data coming in from the study sites!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
