Van Houte Lab

Hannah Westlake

Part-time Project Administrator

I joined the van Houte and Westra labs in April 2023 as a Part-time Project Administrator. It’s my job to take care of all the little administrative tasks like ordering consumables, updating websites, and acting as a liason with our lovely ESI staff to ensure things run as smoothly as possible in the lab. If I don’t know how to do something, I’ll figure it out or find someone who does know.

I previously worked at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in the lab of Professor Bruno Lemaitre as a technical specialist (2019-2022), performing a reproducibility analysis of literature in Drosophila immunity.

I did my Bachelors and Masters degrees in marine invertebrate biology at the University of Victoria (UVic) in Canada. There, I studied the evolutionary developmental morphology of the neuromuscular system of stauromedusae (Haliclystus sanjuanensis and Manani handii), and the rhogocytes of gastropod larvae . I also contributed to a recent publication formally describing Haliclystus sanjuanensis and updating the taxonomy of stauromedusae.
