My work uses molecular techniques to research the conjugation and fitness effects of antimicrobial resistance plasmids in Klebsiella pneumoniae, a pathogen noted for its capacity to carry and disseminate resistance genes. I joined the van Houte lab as an intern researching how CRISPR-Cas9 antimicrobials can target these plasmids to stop their spread in bacterial communities.
