{"id":253,"date":"2025-03-24T09:51:56","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T09:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/vsimulators\/?p=253"},"modified":"2025-03-24T09:51:57","modified_gmt":"2025-03-24T09:51:57","slug":"second-phase-of-wearable-technology-project-to-help-people-with-parkinsons-gets-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/vsimulators\/2025\/03\/24\/second-phase-of-wearable-technology-project-to-help-people-with-parkinsons-gets-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Second phase of wearable technology project to help people with Parkinson&#8217;s gets underway"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The VSimulators team are pleased to support the second phase of testing for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/gaitq\/\">gaitQ<\/a>, an innovative cueing system designed to enhance walking and overall quality of life for individuals with Parkinson\u2019s disease.<br><br>Researcher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/hassan-fadavi-md-phd-60b28318\/\">Hassan Fadavi<\/a> alongside Technical Services Staff <a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/23281-james-bassitt\">James Bassitt<\/a>, Research Director for VSimulators, and Experimental Officer <a href=\"https:\/\/experts.exeter.ac.uk\/27462-garry-massey\">Garry Massey<\/a>, worked with a participant to evaluate and validate a state-of-the-art wearable device by gaitQ. The device features two \u201cpods\u201d affixed to the upper calves, which send out vibrational cues, guiding the wearer through their steps, with the aim of improving confidence in walking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the second phase of the collaboration between the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.exeter.ac.uk\/\">University of Exeter<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gaitq.com\/\">gaitQ Limited<\/a>, a spinout from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ox.ac.uk\/\">University of Oxford<\/a>, which seeks to address the walking challenges faced by many with Parkinson\u2019s, such as the debilitating \u201cfreezing of gait\u201d.
