Clare, David and Ellie recently volunteered at the annual University of Exeter \u201cScience in the Square\u201d event. The day was all about inspiring young people and getting them interested in science. There were 7 interactive zones for the kids to explore, showcasing different aspects of the research carried out on Exeter\u2019s Penryn campus. Ellie was helping out at the \u2018Minibeast\u2019 zone, where visitors had the chance to use microscopes to see tardigrades up close, watch a battle between Hydra and Daphnia, and feed the flatworms. David was involved in the \u2018Bone\u2019 zone where participants could examine skulls and try and guess which animal they belonged to, he explained how the teeth and skull structure related to the animal\u2019s diet. Clare was the zone leader for the \u2018Craft\u2019 zone where children turned recycled milk bottles into useful birdfeeders, had their face painted as their favourite animal, or used other recycled material to create wildlife-inspired art! The 2000+ visitors had lots of insightful questions and seemed to leave more enthusiastic than ever about science. It was a really fun day, and it felt great to give something back to the local community!<\/p>\n\n\n
