We also have some zebrafish housing systems with removeable tanks that work really well for for raising baby guppies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide are-vertically-aligned-top is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-3 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:41%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"814\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/wilson-group\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/337\/2023\/10\/shrimp.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/wilson-group\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/337\/2023\/10\/shrimp.jpg 814w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/wilson-group\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/337\/2023\/10\/shrimp-300x174.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.exeter.ac.uk\/wilson-group\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/337\/2023\/10\/shrimp-768x446.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 814px) 100vw, 814px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:59%\">\n<p>As well as fish, the lab is also home to our colony of <strong>red cherry shrimp<\/strong><em>.<\/em> This is an ornamental strain of <em>Neocaridina heteropoda<\/em> that has been selected for its red colouration. The wild-type is a muddy brown colour and is native to Eastern China and Northern Taiwan, although introduced populations have become established in many other places.  It is really easy to keep and breed in captivity and we are developing it as an invertebrate model system for fundamental behavioural and genetic studies. Here&#8217;s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.authorea.com\/users\/677068\/articles\/674312-among-individual-behavioural-variation-in-the-ornamental-red-cherry-shrimp-neocaridina-heteropoda\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.authorea.com\/users\/677068\/articles\/674312-among-individual-behavioural-variation-in-the-ornamental-red-cherry-shrimp-neocaridina-heteropoda\" target=\"_blank\">our first preprint<\/a> on the system which describes a study of personality variation.
