Good morning everyone!
We hope that everyone has enjoyed the past week. We in Exeter have seen some beautiful sunshine to compliment lockdown restrictions easing and our campus looking beautiful as always. Today’s blog will be focusing on some of the questions we have had over the past week surrounding accommodation applications.
I have firmed Exeter but keep getting an error message:
“Firstly, you must have a FIRM offer with University of Exeter. PLEASE NOTE: If you have received an offer of a place on a full-time postgraduate taught you will only have a FIRM offer once you have paid the deposit for your course at the University. Secondly, your information needs to be transferred from the Admissions Office system to the Accommodation Office system (usually within 3 days of Exeter becoming your FIRM choice). Only after both these conditions have been met will you be able to apply online. If you are unable to activate your account please wait 48 hours to allow the transfer to occur, then re-enter your details; or email us to inform them of any difficulties.”
Please don’t be alarmed if you see this error message, this comes up automatically if there is any error in your registration details (such as a middle name or a typo)
- Your name needs to match our records exactly
- You have accepted Exeter as your FIRM choice (Remember you may need to give it up to 3 days after firming for your records to be updated)
- Your date of birth needs to be in the DD/MM/YYYY
- Password meets our criteria (At least 8 letters with at least 1 number and 1 capital letter)
If you still aren’t able to register, then you may wish to contact us so that we can have a look into why this may be and we will sort it out for you!
Editing your account details
You can manage your account details online through the ‘Account’ tab. Here you can reset your password and if you wish to change your log-in email address go to ‘Maintain Account’.
Any personal details will need to be updated either through UCAS or through the admissions team.
How many preferences do I have and do I need to select all of them?
For 2021/22 applications before the 31st July, you will be able to select 5 preferences. You will need to select all 5 in order to submit your application. Any additional information or preferences can be added to the notes section at the end.
Editing an application
It is possible to amend or delete an application but only before it has been submitted.
Log back in to your accommodation account
• Navigate to the ‘My Application and Booking’ tab
• Select ‘View’ against your application
• To amend your application, please select ‘edit’ against the relevant section – you can make changes to the additional information here, but you may only re-order your residence preferences at this stage. Please ‘save’ the application once again. Your original ‘submit’ date will remain the same.
If you wish to change your application after it has been submitted then you will need to get in touch with us and we can make changes or delete your application for you.
I heard that we would be asked to supply interests to help match us with other potential flatmates but I didn’t get asked this on the application?
We have decided to remove the interest section on our applications for 2021/22 so that our accommodation can offer a more inclusive and diverse environment which is not focused on interests (which did not allow for different personalities and didn’t always mean the perfect match!). We hope that it will encourage students to form a community when they arrive in Exeter, and the opportunity to meet students with other interests – which may become your new hobby. The Covid-19 pandemic has really shown what a community feeling means to our students. We still have the options for age preference, quiet ,alcohol free and single gender accommodation though so that students can live in the type of environment that is important to them.
When will I receive an offer?
Please see our dedicated webpage which provides you with information on when you will receive an offer for accommodation. We have split it into different categories, depending on the type of student that you are. Don’t forget that you can use our ‘track your application‘ webpage in order to see what is happening with your application at the moment.
We hope that this has a useful FAQ blog .Remember that you can still to contact us with any questions. We are currently available Monday-Friday 9-5pm. Wishing you a wonderful week!
