Good morning everyone and welcome to Freshers week!
We hope that you all had a safe journey getting to Exeter. Today’s blog is here to give you some information on what is available for you whilst you’re settling in.

Problems with your room

In the first instance, if you have arrived and have a problem with you room ,such as a maintenance issue or any concerns you wish to raise, then you should go to your dedicated residence reception to discuss this with them. The residence reception should be your first point of contact for all matters concerning maintenance issues or other issues with the building specifically.  You can find your dedicated reception information on our Residence Reception Webpage.

If the issue is urgent and your reception is closed, we would advise you to contact Estate Patrol. Estate patrol are available 24 hours a day 365 days a year and can be contacted on 01392 723999 for routine maintenance or 01392 722222 for emergencies.

Homesickness

University is a big change for many students and for many of you, it will be your first time away from home. If you’re feeling worried, concerned or perhaps your first week isn’t how you expected it then please know that you are far from the only one!
If you missed it, last weeks blog by residence life team member Helen Anderson about settling in provides some great tips and advice. Our residence life team are running drop-in sessions where you can come and have a chat with one of our lovely team members. See times and location below:

If you are really struggling with your mental health, it may be worth talking to our Wellbeing Services team who will be able to provide you with ongoing support throughout your time in Exeter.

Covid-19 Safety

Whilst we know that the government guidelines have eased, the University does want to try to encourage us all to work together to keep each other safe. With the excitement of freshers week we know that it may seem like a bit of a drag, especially having had to deal with the pandemic over the past year! However, please do try to act sensibly and safely.
We encourage students to:

  • Choose to wear a face covering indoors
  • Be aware of and respect the personal space of others
  • Maintain good hand hygiene – wash regularly and use the sanitiser provided
  • Take regular lateral flow tests – twice per week

Please take a look at our updated webpages for more information and guidance. We also encourage you to keep an eye on government guidance regularly.
