This week we have another guest blog written by current student Lakshmipriya Venkatesan who is studing a postgraduate course in MSc Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture on the Streatham Campus. Lakshmipriya is talking to us about her time living in self-catered halls. Take a look:

“Home – everyone needs one. And this applies to your time at university. For the length of your course at the University of Exeter, your accommodation will be your home.
If you’re anything like me, chances are you’ll spend quite a bit of time in your room. So it’s understandable if you’re worried about where that is going to be, who you’re going to live with, whether it will have a launderette…. the list can be pretty long!
During my postgraduate degree I lived in the self-catered residence of Clydesdale Rise.
Finding a place to live was a rather scary prospect for me, especially as I hadn’t had a chance to visit the University before. So I did what every student does – I read about the accommodation prospects on the website which had all the information I needed to make a choice. Finally the day came and I was offered a place at Clydesdale Rise and I was really excited!
My first look at the areas near Holland Hall (which was the reception for my place) made me grin, as I saw lots of students milling about, chatting and moving in together. It made me feel very safe, knowing that the whole area was populated by students. I cautiously entered my flat, wondering who my housemates were. The flat looked lovely, and I loved the spacious kitchen! So much space for storage, lots of fridge space, a great lounge area for socializing and lots of windows for gazing out!
Then I entered my room and it was beautiful (exactly like the pictures on the website!) The first thing I saw was the great big table, which is something a student always needs. And lots of lighting for it. Also, lots of shelves for all my books and notes. The wardrobe, cabinets and drawers meant lots of room for all my clothes which is always a plus. The view out of the massive window was pretty great, too.
The en-suite was rather cute, just perfect for one person. But I have to admit, the thing I most loved about my room was the little bright reading light on top of my bed, ideal for reading before bed, as well as bookshelves conveniently placed just above the bed. Pure delight!
My flatmates are all perfectly nice and its been great to meet a lot of people from different parts of the world. The accommodation socials are also great ways to meet people.
The launderette is barely two minutes away, at Clydesdale House, so no lugging heavy laundry very far. The walk to the Forum takes ten minutes tops, and there are at least 4 different ways from Clydesdale Avenue taking you to different parts of campus.
So living at Clydesdale Rise has been wonderful. I love my home away from home! University accommodation is great fun and a great place to experience many new things!”
