As the end of the autumn term is in sight, you’ll probably have plenty of things on your mind: moving out of uni accommodation for the winter break; Christmas shopping and festivities; coursework and exams in the new year.

If finding somewhere to live after your first year is still on your to-do list, don’t panic. Exeter has lots of options when it comes to private accommodation and many students are still on the look-out for their next home, not to mention people to live with. Here are a few tips to help with your search:

Go to a flatmate finder event

With two more events coming up, there are still opportunities to ask the Students’ Guild Advice team, Residence Life Mentors and Community Engagement Officers about those next steps. Plus chat with other students and you might just find things in common when it comes to what’s important to you in a housemate.

5th December (book your place here) and 16th January, from 18:30 – 19:30 on Level 1 in Devonshire House.

Visit Studentpad

Studentpad is a free online site where you can search for accommodation depending on the criteria you are looking for. Plus you can use the message board to chat with other students who are looking for people to live with.

Know what to look for

If you’re already one step ahead and are thinking of viewing a property, the Community Liaison Team have created some handy videos to help you consider some important things before you go to a viewing, plus what to look for once you are there.

Take a look at their website for helpful tips or watch the video below.

We’ll be back in January with more support on finding a place to live after your first year. In the meantime, if you have any questions or worries about your accommodation search, please reach out to the Students’ Guild or Residence Life Team.
