If you’re exploring different areas of Exeter as part of your accommodation search, hearing from a current student can be a great way to get a feel for what it’s like to live there. In this guest blog, student Eve shares her experience of living in Mount Pleasant, giving you an insight into the area and what you can expect.
The Mount Pleasant area has a lovely mix of both students and permanent residents, offering a quieter experience than some of the busier student areas, whilst still feeling within the university bubble. About a 20–30-minute walk to both campus and the city centre, you definitely get your steps in, whilst still feeling close enough to everywhere you need.
Even more convenient is the Premier Express corner shop on Pinhoe Road, whether you’re on the way back from a lecture and need some ingredients for dinner, or picking up some emergency essentials.

However, my personal favourite spot that Mount Pleasant has to offer is The Ridge Café, situated on Polsloe Road. It’s a great place to grab a coffee with friends, or a change of scenery for getting some studying done.

Belmont Park, less than a 10-minute walk away, is also a great place to go for a stroll, run, or hang out with friends. Polsloe Railway Station is also a similar distance away, making travel so accessible.
All in all, the Mount Pleasant area encompasses all the necessary requirements of student living. Walking distance to shops, campus, access to green spaces, convenience stores, and the perfect balance of student life with quieter living.
