AmazonSOS

AmazonSOS

Amazon-SOS is a groundbreaking research initiative aimed at understanding the risks of Amazon rainforest dieback due to climate change and human activities. By integrating new experiments, data, and cutting-edge technology, the project will assess how forests respond to disturbances like fires, droughts, and deforestation. The goal is to co-develop strategies with stakeholders to protect Amazonia and create a “Safe Operating Space” for the forest.

Key Objectives:

  • Determine the likelihood of Amazon forest dieback this century.
  • Identify which regions are most susceptible.
  • Understand which climate and human-driven processes bring the greatest risk to the forest.
  • Develop tools and models to inform decision-making at local, national, and international levels.
