27 November 2018Team members from the BioResilience project conducted a preliminary scouting trip to sites in Boyaca and Cundinamarca, marking the beginning of the three-year project. The field trip lasted for 5 days and 4 nights and included the participation of Monica Amador, Julieth Serrano, Felipe Franco and Dunia Urrego. One of the purposes of the trip was to find potential sites in Cundinamarca and Boyacá that meet the requirements of the three project components. To find natural lakes is perhaps the most restrictive criterium in this trans-interdisciplinary research, so it was decided that other criteria would be considered in areas where such lakes were found. Those criteria include the occurrence of stands of forest large enough to establish a plot, and human practices with and in the forests. Those sites where the social, palaeoecology and ecology components meet, will be also complemented by a network of forest plots that will cover additional sites within an altitudinal and transformation gradient in the Boyacá and Cundinamarca departments.
