Infrared (IR) spectroscopic imaging technology in the bio-spectroscopy labs is currently being applied as a novel optical diagnostic tool especially for cancers. Several cell and tissue types are being investigated in this regard using conventional, high-resolution and attenuated total reflection (ATR) set-ups using a bench top Agilent IR imaging system. Ongoing projects are aimed to test novel mid-IR light sources such as supercontinuum and Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCL) in combination with conventional as well as new generation focal plane array (FPA) detector systems being developed for large scale pathology screening and to bring this technology closer to clinical environments.
