    Dr William Skinner

    RaNT Experimental Officer

William Skinner completed his PhD at the Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Sensing and Measurement (CDT-ISM) at the University of Edinburgh, UK, in 2022. During his PhD he developed surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) microparticles for optical pH sensing in the cellular microenvironment of 2D and 3D Cystic Fibrosis disease models. William is currently a postdoc at the University of Exeter, UK, on the Raman Nanotheranostics (RaNT) programme: a collaboration between the University of Cambridge, University College London and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory aiming to deliver the synergistic application of Raman spectroscopy and nanoparticle mediated photothermal therapy to detect and treat solid tumours. His research focuses on developing an all-in-one plasmonic heater and SERS thermometer to guide temperature elevation in solid tumours during therapy. William is driven by the potential of SERS and nanotechnology to improve the detection, understanding and treatment of disease.
