Dr Silvia Del Din is a bioengineer by background, she completed her PhD in Information Engineering at the University of Padua (Italy).
She is a Newcastle University Academic Track (NUacT) Fellow in the Translational and Clinical Research Institute at the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
She collaborates with the multidisciplinary Brain and Movement (BAM) Research group, where she leads the wearable and digital technology team.
She is focussed on innovating digital healthcare (wearable sensors) and translating it into clinical practice. In particular, she is interested in enhancing the use of wearable technology together with innovative data analysis techniques to enable remote monitoring and clinical management in ageing and neurodegenerative disorders (e.g. Parkinsonās disease)).
Her research aims to provide a proof-of-concept of this vision in Parkinsonās disease by understanding and predicting the impact that medication has on people with Parkinsonās disease everyday life motor performance. This could revolutionise at-home patient care by optimising medication regimes.
Silvia is an advocate for Early Career Researchers (ECR) and strives to be a role-model of women in STEM.
