The Farming Futures Cycle Tour

Data collection

Who is eligible to take part?

I am interested in interviewing women who live, work, or volunteer on farms. You may identify as a farmer, a farmer’s wife, a farmer’s daughter, a farmworker, a volunteer farmworker, an urban farmer, or a community farmer.

What would taking part involve?

I am asking you to take part in a semi-structured interview about your visions for the future of farming and food production in England. This should last between one to two hours and will take place at your farm/office. If you agree, I will record the interview using my phone or an audio recorder. The interview will use different techniques to explore your visions for the future. If you are happy to do so, the interview will be followed by a farm walk, where you can show me around your farm and we’ll discuss your vision of the future.

What are the benefits and costs of taking part?

We appreciate that taking part represents an investment of time in your busy life. We hope you will find the research interesting and valuable to participate in. By taking part, you are helping me to learn about this topic and build my research skills. The results of this study may not benefit you directly, but I hope they can raise awareness of the need to include women’s voices when envisioning futures, while also informing further research.

Discussing the future may bring up topics you find uncomfortable. You are under no obligation to share information and can refuse to answer any questions. You may also pause or stop the interview or ask me to leave at any point. Your data will remain fully confidential and only accessible to the researcher (myself) and my supervisory team. You also have full control over how you will be identified and can choose to have your data deleted up until publication.

Will I receive any payment for taking part?

Unfortunately, I am not able to offer any payment for taking part in this study.
