The Safeguarding FGC Study

The Safeguarding Family Group Conference (FGC) Study

Welcome to the Safeguarding Family Group Conference Study website. Funded by the National Institute for Health Research, we are a team of researchers working closely with three Local Authorities who have introduced Safeguarding Family Group Conferences (Safeguarding FGCs) as an alternative to Initial Child Protection Conferences on the child protection pathway.

Safeguarding FGCs may provide a more positive way of working with families than traditional meetings, but findings from trials and systematic reviews have been inconclusive. To address this research gap, we are conducting a realist evaluation to understand how Safeguarding FGCs work best, for whom, and under what circumstances to achieve desired outcomes for families and professionals.

This study is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Health Services and Delivery Research Programme (Grant Reference Number NIHR131922).
